Chinese Takeout and Love
This past week, my husband Jacob and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. As we sat in our car eating takeout from the Chinese restaurant we frequented when we were first dating, I looked over at my husband who was stuffing his face with the spring rolls I don't like. He gave me a big, loving smile, and I thanked God for bringing such a wonderful man into my life.
I say all of this not to brag, but to encourage you to find a partner who will fight for you, care for you, and put the effort in to ensure that you are safe and happy. I'm not saying that every day has to be a full blown romantic, exotic, and exhilarating experience, but I hope and pray that you have the confidence and the courage to devote yourself to a partner that is worth your time.
So often, I see people putting up with an ungrateful, angry, and toxic dating partner. You deserve someone that will treat you with respect, honor, and dignity. My relationship is not perfect by any means, but I know that at the end of the day, my husband will still be there cheering me on. Don't settle for someone who isn't texting you back, who flirts with other people, who hurts you physically or emotionally, or who puts you at the end of their priority list.
You are a beautiful, special, intelligent, and caring person who deserves the kind of treatment that will make you feel loved and whole. If you are still waiting for that person to come into your life, be patient. Good things often take time. If you are already in a relationship, remember that it is never too late to start a good behavior.
If you find yourself in a toxic, dangerous, or unsettling relationship, many areas have resources in place which will help you get out of a scary situation or move forward from a broken heart. Remember that love shouldn't hurt, and that you deserve a special, compassionate relationship with someone who respects you and your heart.
This week, I am grateful for my caring, joyful, strong, smart, and handsome husband Jacob. I can't wait for many more years with the love of my life.
